Disclexington Auctions II

Okay so the last auction was a bust, so we're upgrading the free gift portion of the auction. We've still got the 8 Bands on an 8 Track compilation AND the excellent adjunct hand-screened poster but now we are throwing out the book of plays (who needs the 1940's anyway?).

We're throwing in...

That's right, we're throwing in a FeetJoy Shoe Dryer!

Starting bid still one dollar plus five dollars shipping and handling.

Disclexington Auctions

Disclexington Productions is proud to present the Disclexington Auction Series. We are going to auction off the remaining Ed Compilation CD's with other stuff on eBay. What fun. But we'll start here. Get in early and all that. The first item up for bid...

The Ed 8 Bands on an 8-Track Compilation CD (featuring artwork by the great Kathleen Judge and great audio work from Bob Taylor, Broad Tosser, the New Town Drunks, Urban Djin, Hotel Brotherhood, churchbus and more). AND if you act now this item comes with a silk-screened comp-advertisement featuring the artwork of Kathleen Judge and hand printed by Viv E. It is truly lovely and I'm not just saying that. But that's not all, we are also throwing in a book first owned by St. Paul High School in Chicago, Illinois Famous American Plays of the 1940's featuring the work of Arthur Miller, Thorton Wilder, Carson McCullers and others.

And what is the starting bid for this treasure? One. That's right One. One dollar bill.

Plus three others for shipping.

Bid by commenting below and be a part of something small. We'll move the auction to eBay when we're good and ready. Bidding ends Sunday the 13th of May at the midnight hour.

Hey Houston! Some Events Coming Up Soon

blog updated April 6th to add Poopy Longstuffing, Emerald Mystiek and Flakey to to the Cardboard Art Show. REALLY keep up with the Cardboard stuff here. Also, Brad will not be doing work for the show but will grace us with his entire body for the opening Friday the 13th.

blog updated March 31st to add Marie Catrett and Mike Switzer to the Cardboard Art Show

Thursday April 12th - Come out to Rudz for the Mathletes, Bright Men of Learning and the Redo Makeshift Honorary Band feature the boys in de Schmog, Ramon Medina from LP4, Mike Switzer, Joe Mathlete, Chris Bakos and others. Should be a good one!

Friday April 13th -
Cardboard Art Show at Super Happy Funland including work from many great Houston artists and some surprises, sponsored by the Birdhouse Museum.

This event ties nicely into a cardboard theme going on in Houston at this time. There's a Oiticica exhibit at the MFAH which features many of his works on cardboard. This exhibit is up until April 1st. I saw it over the holidays and really dug it. The main exhibit at the Menil from Feb 23rd to May 13th is Robert Rauschenberg - Cardboard and Related Pieces. How fitting! I'll definitely be going to that.

Cardboard Artists include but are not limited to:

Justin Crane - former KTRU DJ, musician and the creator of very clever and unique Christmas cards

Keith Reynolds - I own a self-portrait on cardboard of Keith's that I bought for five bucks maybe eight years ago. It was a steal. This is Houston's original cardboard artist.

Joe Mathlete - Check out Joe's blog and you'll see why he's got to be there.

Electramummy - used to bartend at Catal Huyuk and has her work online. She now lives in Alaska and is the dj for the Nonalignment Pact.

Joel Orr - Houston puppeteer and organizer.

Brad Moore - Brad Moore is the Breeze.

John Cramer - Houston psych-metal guitar wizard of Mike Gunn, Project Grimm fame.

Rosa Guerrero - Houston rock photographer and writer. Look out.

Allen Pocius - Chicago cardboard artist. The originator of the Birdhouse Museum series of cardboard art shows.

Denise Ramos - Houston artist and club proprietor.

YET Torres - Houston based artist

Marie Catrett - Austin Artist and Writer.

Mike Switzer - Houston musician, actor writer.

Saturday April 14th - The Infernal Bridegroom Productions 2007 Gala, the Tortured Artist Gala. I wormed my way into the gala band for this one. If you can afford it, support your local theater and come out! This will be a blast.

Funny things that happen on the internet

Several weeks ago I made a "click me" gif out of a photo Tricia took on our Pacific Northwest road trip. I stopped using it on the disclexington site but the image is still on disclexington.com.

Anyway I was looking at a disclexington.com traffic report and noticed that several "hits" come from sites that have nothing what so ever to do with disclexington, except that folks are grabbing this "click me" image and using it for their own dealies. Like a comment you can find on this NOT-for-office-children myspace site.

The image is of a dog we met on our travels when we stayed with his owner who was generous enough to put us up one night on Wallowa Lake. Very friendly Oregonians. Good times.

So if you see this image out and about, now you know its story.

A Thing As Big As The Ocean

Disclexington artists Joe Cashiola and Jeff Harms, who recorded here with Hotel Brotherhood, are back from the bottom half of the States, shooting their new feature-length movie. The trailer is up on Robot Machine Gun. Check it out.

Urban, Lost Cowboy

Hey folks, introduce yourself to Urban Djin, a south side yodeler with a vast repertoire of American music from Western Swing and Honky Tonks to Latin boleros and polkas. He's been writing up a storm on his myspace blog about the old Maxwell Street Scene, the state of country music today and other stuff. Urban's playing these days every Thursday night at the Smoke Daddy in the Ukrainian Village and as usual on Sundays at the Maxwell Street Flea Market. And of course Urban is featured on the new Disclexington release, Ed, which you should get because it won't cost you an arm and a leg, and because it is good.

Hey Kids - Mi Barrio

I talk about my neighborhood on the NAP, where this week you can also get in on a heated debate about New Orleans and Iraq, or get inside John Cramer's dark brain, or learn that Doug wants to play cello, or listen to some knuckle scraping ROCK, or get mad enough at MT to tickle him.

Tomorrow check out Gapers Block. I got myself interviewed in the Air Bags section by John Hospodka, the resident art interviewer. His section is called "Three Questions for..."

Hey Houston - Free Beer. Be an extra. Meet some cool peeps

Some friends are filming in H-town this weekend. Here, let me let them tell you...

Hanger-outers is what we want. Not a bunch of actors pretending to hang out. And you would be suprised what we can do with just 3 people with today's digital technology, you could become an army of hanger-outers.

So, please come! Come one, come three! Come all!

We are shooting on February 29th 3pm-6ish at the Proletariat
And we will be filming the night of the benefit at the Proletariat too (Sunday the 28th), so you should come out and support that too.

Extras will be drinking real beer, provided by Four Birds Pictures. so that's a free happy hour(s).

Sincere thanks for your replies.

another bonus song from the new Disclexington compilation

This special listen goes out to you bloggettes and you only thanks for reading.

broadtosser-gunshow.mp3

From our Nonalignment Pact post -

A decidedly all-girl rock band who are hot and rock and they would like you to recognize that little fact. BroadTosser sounds like the Throwing Muses throwing down with Black Sabbath. Recently they've been recording a new demo as a three piece with lots of tricky studio stuff on it. When they recorded for Disclexington they were still a four piece. I like their new direction but I am also deeply satisfied with the pureness of Sarah's voice captured only on the Ed release.

P.S. Get you a copy of the Disclexington compilation here. The price is right (8 bucks including shipping!). This price may go away as distribution is ironed out so hurry. :- )
